"ROCK AND ROLL SUNDAY NIGHT!"

I think I was supposed to be here last Tuesday but...," Oh, well, Sunday night will have to do. Thanks to DICKIE DOO WOP for filling in last Saturday. "DICKIE DOO WOP & THE DEBUTANTS" are still belting out the fifties and sixties out here in California. Before I forget, DICKIE says thanks to JOEY DEE for the kind words. JOEY DEE & THE STARLIGHTERS were the SCENE back in the early 1960s in NEW YORK CITY! JOEY DEE, THE STARLIGHTERS, THE RONETTES and every celebrity in New York were all dancing to THE PEPPERMINT TWIST at the PEPPERMINT LOUNGE! Stars like BROADWAY JOE NAMATH and THE BEATLES were rocking and bopping to JOEY DEE while every red blooded guy in the place was lusting after THOSE GORGEOUS RONETTES! Man, it was HAPPENING! JOEY, DAVID BRIGATI (An ORIGINAL STARLIGHTER who later sang with THE RASCALS) and BOBBY VALLI (FRANKIE'S BROTHER) are now performing TOGETHER! Check out, The original JERSEY BOYS at WWW.JOEYDEE.COM.
I told you about my early days of rock and roll in a previous blog but even before Artie, Richie, Joey and me singing DOO WOP on Avenue D as THE IMPALAS, I was already aware at about the age of eleven, that 50's ROCK and ROLL had something WILDLY MAGIC about it. I remember listening to, "AT MY FRONT DOOR" by the EL DORADOS and bouncing off the walls at JUNIOR LOPETTO'S HOUSE with JIMMY B. and JACKIE G. We basically taught ourselves to dance and we were hip-gyrating long before we ever heard of ELVIS. Another song we liked was the ORIGINAL "LITTLE DARLING" by THE GLADIOLAS.
Right now, CATHY JEAN & THE ROOMATES are singing, "PLEASE LOVE ME FOREVER". DOO WOP JACK CARLSON was in that group (alldoowop.com/thedoowopjukebox.com). THE ROOMATES are from FLUSHING, QUEENS and knew TOM & JERRY (before they were Simon & Garfunkle). Remember, "HEY SCHOOLGIRL"?
I'm going to have to say, "GOONIGHT MY LOVE" myself, because it's getting late. When I come back, we'll continue with our RETURN TO FLATBUSH trip down MEMORY LANE. In the meantime, keep those HOT RODS RUNNING AND THAT ROCK AND ROLL PLAYING! This is Richie D., "The Kid From Flatbush" (www.thekidfromflatbush.com).
